Located near the source of the Verdon, in the commune of Beauvezer between Colmar and Saint-André-les-Alpes, these gorges offer a spectacle that defies words. Discover it on foot, crossing the canyon, larch forests and river springs. As you make your way along the winding paths, the grandiose panoramas unfold before you, leaving you speechless.

Hiking, heritage, local gastronomy – take your time

This part of the Verdon is best discovered on foot. Along the way, take the time to stop off at Chapelle Saint Pierre des Gorges, a place steeped in history and spirituality in the heart of a generous natural setting. Stop off at the Congerman gîte at 1860m altitude, open from June to October, and enjoy the bucolic site on which it is built. Take the opportunity to enjoy an invigorating break with a plate of charcuterie and local cheeses. Continue on to Chabanal, where you can climb up to Cougouyon and Lac de Lignin to recharge your batteries.

End the day with a visit to the village and a taste of local produce

To round off a day rich in discovery, how about a stroll through the little village of Beauvezer to catch the last rays of sunshine? You’ll appreciate the authentic, unspoilt atmosphere of this charming, typical Provencal village. The Haut Verdon local produce store will be delighted to welcome you for a gourmet break. There’s nothing like tasting the authentic flavours and local specialities of a place with a unique character to round off a great day out.

Good to know

The trail is aerial and on the edge of a cliff, so the hike is not recommended for those prone to vertigo. It is also not recommended in rainy or frosty weather, or on days following severe weather.

The Gorges de Saint-Pierre are very narrow and steep. Because of the danger they can represent apart from hiking, they are off-limits to mountain bikes.

Dogs are welcome in the Gorges de Saint-Pierre, but must be kept on a leash.

The canyon is closed in winter from November to May 15.
